RHA’s ground-breaking headphone has been awarded a Red Dot Award for Product Design
The CL2 Planar is precision engineered with luxury materials to ensure remarkable sound quality and beautiful finish
GLASGOW, UK: Independent audio company RHA is delighted to announce that it has won an award in the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2019. The CL2 Planar magnetic headphone received the Red Dot, which the renowned jury only awards to products that feature outstanding design.

The Product Design team at RHA developed the CL2 Planar headphone over four years, using superior materials and manufacturing processes, taking inspiration from the aerospace and fine jewellery industries.
Zirconium dioxide is used to create near-indestructible, beautiful housings for the CL2 Planar. The uniform molecular structure of zirconium is also used to make synthetic diamonds and protect jet engines. The smooth internal surface encourages an uninterrupted flow of audio waves from driver to ear.
“At the start of the design process for the CL2 Planar, my team were faced with the challenge of creating a new standard in acoustic engineering. We spent years researching and testing, and what we have produced is a world-first in magnetic driver technology - a true testament to the creativity and innovation at RHA. We are absolutely delighted that Red Dot decided to honour us with this award,” said Kyle Hutchison, Head of Product Design at RHA.
Design quality is the common factor for award-winning products

Experience and expertise get straight to the point
The Red Dot Award: Product Design is one of the world’s largest design competitions. In 2019, designers and manufacturers from 55 countries entered more than 5,500 products in the competition. The international jury comprises experienced experts from different disciplines and has been convening for more than 60 years in order to select the year’s best designs. During an adjudication process that spans several days, they try out the products, discuss them and ultimately reach a well-founded decision regarding the design quality of the entries. True to the motto “In search of good design and innovation”, their assessment focuses on criteria such as the level of innovation, functionality, formal quality, longevity and ergonomics.
